Pop songs that refer to winter, just in time for the solstice

December 22, 2015 by Lamont Antieau in music video essay

Well, you didn't make it to Stonehenge in time for Winter Solstice 2015, but you can still enjoy five songs from Billboard's year-end Top Ten charts (1956-2014) that make reference to Old Man Winter.

In chronological order:

"California Dreamin'" by the Mamas and the Papas appears at #10 on Billboard's Top 100 chart for 1966

"Ain't No Mountain High Enough" by Diana Ross appears at #6 on Billboard's year-end Top 100 for 1970

"The Rose" by Bette Midler appears at #10 on Billboard's year-end Top 100 for 1980

"It Must Have Been Love" by Roxette appears at #2 on Billboard's year-end Top 100 chart for 1990

"Heartless" by Kanye West appears at #9 on Billboard's year-end Top 100 for 2009

And in the spirit of the Christmas season, a little something extra:

"Stonehenge" by Spinal Tap, which appears nowhere on the Billboard charts, nor anywhere close to the real size of the objects it celebrates.
