"Do you believe in miracles?"

In this day in history, the young U.S. Olympic hockey team beat the Russians in the semifinals of the 1980 Winter Olympics, prompting sportscasters Al Michaels to utter one of the most famous lines in American broadcasts: "Do you believe in miracles?" To commemorate this event, here is a music video essay featuring all the songs from the Billboard year-end Top Ten charts (1951-2015) that include the word miracle in chronological order:

Sammy Davis performs his big world-wide smash hit recording of "The Candyman" in this 1972 clip. The song was written by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley and featured in the film "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" the previous year, 1971. A great memory....

And two bonuses: Of course, it would be remiss to not include Hot Chocolate's "You Sexy Thing" (1976), even though it only appears at #22 in Billboard's Hot 100 for that year.

An interracial English funk and soul group, Hot Chocolate scored a pair of huge hits in the '70s but were otherwise more enthusiastic than skilled. Lead singer Erroll Brown, guitarist Harvey Hinsley, keyboardist Larry Ferguson, bassist Tony Wilson, drummer Tony Connor, and conga player Pat Olive were the original lineup.

Similarly, Jefferson Starship's "Miracles" (1975) has to be included here, despite somehow not making it into the year-end Hot 100 for any year.
