Plenty of birthday stuff showing up on my Facebook feed this week, prompting me to finally do a search for the word "birthday" in my music collections. This music video essay draws from Billboard's year-end Top 30 charts from 1951-2015. Besides the phrase "Happy Birthday", other "birthday" phrases appearing in the collection are "birthday cakes", "birthday suits", and "birthday surprise." The videos are in chronological order before deviating from the Billboard charts for a couple of treats at the end.

Photos of M. Lanza, Ann Blyth, and champion ice skaters Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov skating while Lanza sings, combine the perfection of Mario's voice with the perfection of Gordeeva and Grinkov's ice skating. Mario Lanza sings "Loveliest Night of the Year" so very beautifully, he touches your heart.

The Crests were a New York R&B doo-wop group in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Their most popular song, "Sixteen Candles," rose to number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1959, selling over one million copies, earning a gold disc.
